Look, Cover, Write, Check

 

1. Look
Carefully study the word and its definition. Read it aloud. Try breaking the word into parts if it’s long or technical.

Example:

• Word: Encryption

• Definition: The process of converting information into code to prevent unauthorised access.

Think about:

• What does the word mean in context?

• Can you picture an example? (e.g., messages in WhatsApp being encrypted)

 

2. Cover
Cover both the word and the definition using a piece of paper or by folding your notes. This prevents visual cues and forces you to rely on memory.

 

3. Write
Write down the word and its meaning as accurately as you can. Don’t peek! Use your own words if possible – this shows deeper understanding.

You might write:

“Encryption: hiding data in code so only people with the key can read it.”

 

4. Check
Uncover the original word and definition. Compare it with what you wrote:

• Did you remember the word correctly?

• Did your definition capture the meaning?

• Are there any key points you missed?

If there are mistakes, correct them immediately and try again later.
